Spartanburg High School Wins Award from American Sports Builders Association
For the second year in a row, a project built by Medallion Athletic Products has been a winner in the American Sports Builders Association's (ASBA) annual awards program. Medallion was presented with an award for the Distinguished Single Field Facility for its work on the Spartanburg High School artificial turf field.
Awards are presented each year to facilities built by ASBA members which best exemplify construction excellence. Projects were scored based on considerations such as layout and design, site work, drainage, base construction, surface, amenities, innovation and overall impression. A panel of ASBA members judged entries anonymously. Winning entries were those whose cumulative scores meet or exceed the standard.
"It is with great pleasure and excitement that Spartanburg School District 7 received the knowledge that our field at Spartanburg High School has been recognized by ASBA," says Myles Wilson, Spartanburg School District 7's Operations and Facilities Manager. Wilson was also the Athletic Director at Spartanburg High School during the installation of the field. "After a long journey of concept, planning, and construction, it is a crowning moment to know that all of the hard work is recognized nationally for meeting or exceeding the standards by such a professional organization as ASBA. This facility has allowed Spartanburg High School to partner and collaborate with numerous off campus groups in their pursuit of athletic undertakings. Municipalities, colleges, AAU teams, club teams and the NC/SC Shrine Bowl are just a few groups that have visited our campus since the installation of the field.
"For Medallion to be recognized for our work at Spartanburg High School by ASBA is a great achievement for us", says Matt Broughton, President of Medallion Athletic Products. "Medallion has built a reputation in the Southeast as one of the premier athletic field builders. We take pride in providing our customes with the finest products available in the athletic surfacing industry".
ASBA, of which Medallion is a memeber, is the national organization for builders, designers, and suppliers of materials for athletic facilities. The awards presentations were made at the ASBA Technical Meeting, recently held in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
High Point University Selects Medallion Athletic Products to Install Mondo 3NX Artificial Turf at Vert Stadium
High Point NC- Vert Stadium, home to High Point University's soccer and lacross program, is currently going through a renovation which will make it the premier soccer facility in the Big South Conferen
Medallion Athletic Products has began the process of removing the existing soccer field to prepare the base for the installation of the artificial turf. High Point University has chosen Mondo's 3NX FTS3 artificial turf system to replace the existing field at Vert Stadium. Mondo's 3NX FTS3 consists of Mondo's 3NX monofilament fiber with a thermobonded backing, Mondo's Fine Tuned System (FTS), an engineered shock pad/drainage system, and Ecofill, Mondo's patented infill that is 30% cooler than recycled tire (SBR) infill that is traditionally used in fields. The new 3NX fiber has characteristics that allow it to perfectly mimic the reactions of natural grass and does so with outstanding resilience, durability and comfort.
"The addition of Mondo turf takes Vert Stadium to the next level," said HPU Athletic Director Craig Keilitz. "It was already an excellent venue and now our teams will be able to get great consistent play from the field surface every day. We are so excited about the success of our soccer teams as well as the addition of our lacrosse teams. This upgrade to Vert Stadium will help them all tremendously."
Medallion continues to be the leader in artificial turf installations in North Carolina. "Having the opportunity to install the turf at HPU will further strengthen our reputation," says Matt Broughton, President of Medallion Athletics. We look forward to working with HPU throughout the entire installation process and on future projects. Vert Stadium will be the finest facility in the Big South Conference."
Vert Stadium is the home to High Point University's men's and women's soccer program, women's lacrosse this spring, and men's lacross in 2010.
A live webcam has been set up to record the installation progress. To view the installation, please visit www.highpointpanthers.com and click on the Vert Stadium Project image at the bottom of the page.
UNC Charlotte Recreational Services Chooses Medallion and Mondo for New Recreation Fields
Charlotte NC – As part of a major renovation to their existing facilities, UNC Charlotte’s Recreational Services department will be upgrading from natural grass to artificial turf with the installation of Mondo 3NX. The surface, made by Mondo, a global leader in the sports flooring market, will cover 465,000 square feet at the new Northeast Recreational Field Complex.
Mooresville, NC based Medallion Athletic Products has began construction at the facility which will house two fields. Field one, a 74,000 square foot field which will be lined for soccer and that can be arranged to host multiple events. Field two will be one large multi-purpose field that will be lined with four flag football fields, a soccer field and each of the four corners will have bases for softball.
In the past, rain has restricted the use of the existing natural grass fields but with the installation of artificial turf, cancellations should be something of the past. “A day of rain might mean three days of cancelled games. While our numbers are going up, we believe if we can provide a consistent and safe place to participate, we're going to be very surprised by the increase in participation,” states Hans Kaufmann, assistant director for student operations and student leadership. “This complex will be one of the finest sports facilities in the UNC school system”, says Matt Broughton, President of Medallion Athletics. “With UNC-Charlotte’s growing student population, they will have a safe, high performance facility to enjoy for years.”'

YORK COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL
With practice underway and a new season around the corner, the football team at York Comprehensive High School in York SC, are already seeing the benefits of having an artificial turf field. With record temperatures this summer, the Mondo® Ecofill® used to infill the field has helped keep the on-field temperature cooler than one filled with the typical SBR (recycled rubber) infill. Ecofill® is up to 30% cooler than SBR and is 100% recyclable. Steve Boyd, York’s head coach and athletic director, was impressed with the performance of Ecofill® after seeing it first hand at Spartanburg High School in 2009.
